Why We Use Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil:
Sea Buckthorn is an edible berry native various parts of Europe and Asia. Sea Buckthorn berries are rich in vitamins A, B1, B12, C, E, K, and P; flavonoids, lycopene, carotenoids, and phytosterols. The seeds and their resulting oil contain a near 1:1 ratio of linolenic (Omega-3) and linoleic (Omega-6) acids and a high Vitamin E content along with high levels of carotenoids. These work as antioxidants to fight free radicals that can damage your skin and supply much needed nutrients and aid in moisture retention.
We use cold pressed Sea Buckthorn Oil which preserved the nutrient dense oil produced from the berries. The resulting oil is a light orange/red color represents the high carotene content in the berry and seed of the Sea Buckthorn. We use a percentage of oil that is skin safe to minimize the staining.
One study also showed that Sea Buckthorn Oil has the ability to strengthen the lipid barrier of the epidermis in dry skin and protects against transepidermal water loss which is water loss from the body through the skin. Studies have also shown that the oil’s use on the skin can improve antioxidant levels and reduce the levels of reactive oxygen species and that the oil can actually improve skin metabolism and retard skin maturation, thereby slowing down the aging process. It may also helpful in reducing of the damaging effects of sun radiation due to the high level of nutrients it contains. These are all amazing wins that make it a win for using it in our body care formulations.
