Being a woman is much more than the made up aesthetics that are often presented to us as a society through various types of messaging. For me, it means walking authentically in my boldness and strength and in doing so encouraging others to do the same. I thrive in solitude and my mother gave me the space to do so as a child. She also gave me the space to make my own decisions – be that competing classically on the clarinet for years or writing my own letter and holding my own meetings with school administrators when a teacher tried to fail me for speaking up about a student that was being bullied by said teacher. I love to laugh, sometimes out loud and at the most awkward times too. I wear head wraps to ‘professional’ settings without thinking about it and you’ll often find me chomping it up with the staffers at an event rather than the ‘must meet’ guests. I am by no means unique but I am extremely comfortable with who I am. At the end of the day, we all matter and I hope you feel loved, not just today but everyday.
