Keep Your Soap Bar from Melting Away
The bath experience with handmade cold process soap bar is one of the best ways to care for your skin. Senica’s soap bars recipes contain 5% extra oils. These oils turn into glycerin during the soap making process. Glycerin is a humectant that draws moisture to your skin.
A handmade soap bar is great for cleansing and moisturizing the skin but its naturally occurring glycerin content means it needs to be protected from soaking in water between uses. Otherwise, you end up with a melted glob of soap. Here are three ways to keep your soap from melting away.
1. Use a soap dish that drains, here’s one I keep by the sink.
If you do not have a soap dish that drains then you need to remember to empty the extra water that collects after you use the soap.
2. Keep your soap bar out of the shower if you have an accessible ledge or windowpane where you can safely place your soap bar and dish.
3. Use a soap bag or pouch. The soap bag keeps the bar dry between use without the odor buildup common with other types of fibers. It is also doubles as an exfoliator which is win for your skin.
Here’s an example of a soap we used to offer. Drop a line if you’re interested in these and we’ll bring it back if we have enough requests.
If you use one of these tips, your handmade soap bars will last much longer. Feel free to share how you keep your soap from melting away. I’d love to read them.
