I had the pleasure of hosting a herbal skin care workshop at Whole Foods Market on Veterans Boulevard, yesterday evening. These workshops are a way of sharing Senica’s philosophy of holistic beauty.
In case you’re not familiar, the Senica philosophy focuses on a holistic approach to health, wellness, beauty and restoration. So what you put on your skin is just as important as what your eat. Every area of your life is connected. You’ve probably heard a similar thought before and it is true.
In this herbal skin care class we spoke about herbs such as turmeric, thyme, sage, rosemary and ginger. Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory ingredient that can be used as a face mask. Ginger aids in digestion, warms the body and helps relieve cold and flu symptoms. Thyme and sage are antiseptic and great for facial steams. Thyme can also be used on fish and other dishes. Using fresh herbs is ideal but a dried or ground alternative works as well too.
During the class, I demonstrated how to make a turmeric & honey face mask, grate and use ginger and reviewed the benefits and uses of a few herbs. Stephanie, the healthy eating specialist at Whole Foods Market Veterans, also provided dietary tips. Stephanie is very knowledgeable and talked about different types of nutrients, their role in the body and what foods you find each nutrient in.
I’ll share those details in another post so keep an eye out!
Thanks to those of you who attended the class. If you like to learn about natural alternatives for beauty, health and overall wellness, join the Senica Learning list here, http://eepurl.com/Alro1.
