Fun Exercise Options Wrth Trying Senica

Do you ever get bored with exercise routines? I do!

My physical activity usually consists of interval walking and strength/resistance training a few days a week. However, I tend to fall off during the warmer months. If you live in the southern United States you know the heat is unbearable – all day, every day, during the summer. That’s why I’ve been on a mission to find some fun workout additions that would keep me consistent. Here’s my short list…

  1. Water Aerobics – This is a great option because it is low impact, provides a low to moderate cardio workout and tones the body. I attended my first class a few weeks ago and they can’t keep me away. (That’s me in the featured photo.) I had to adjust my skin and hair care routine for the chlorine but the benefits far outweigh the inconvenience.
  2. Swimming or Swimming Lessons – It is a great full-body workout and keeps you on top of proper swim technique and water safety. I’ve been taking lessons to reacquaint myself. I almost drowned as a child so most of my time on the beach in St. Croix was “floating.” This week they’ve been working with me to slow down my stroke so I can roll and breath without swallowing water 50% of the time. It’s a struggle but I’m making progress.
  3. Zumba – According to their website it Zumba “blend[s] upbeat world rhythms with easy-to-follow choreography, for a total-body workout that feels like a celebration.” It is fun. I’ve done classes with two instructors and most of the moves were easy to follow. I do leave feeling great and think you get what you put in. I find form and follow through were most important in getting a full body work out.

Quick Tip: Find free or low cost alternatives when trying something new. My water aerobics and swimming lessons are free through NORD. I understand, the classes will be continued during the cooler months at their indoor pool locations. YAY! Remember to consult a physician before beginning any exercise program.

Water aerobics is currently my favorite of these three. I think swimming will be number one once I get my stroke, kick and breathing under control. From my lips to God’s ears. Please say little prayer for me. 😐 🙂
