As a Caribbean lady, I have a natural love for delicious homemade juices. Name a fruit or vegetable and chances are I’ve used it in a juice concoction. Today I am sharing a twist on the classic limeade aka lime squash or lime juice. This vitamin-rich, cancer-fighting, digestion-improving, immune-boosting beverage delivers a lot of flavor. Best of all, it is tasty, easy to make and good for you inside and out. Here’s my recipe and the benefits of each ingredient.
Strawberry Mint Limeade Recipe by Senica
Fresh mint leaves (spearmint recommended)
1 cup strawberries blended
Juice of 3-4 large limes
Honey (local if possible)
To make
Combine blended strawberries and lime juice to a pitcher and mix well
Add water to desired tartness
Add crushed mint leaves
Add honey to taste
Enjoy chilled or with two ice cubes
Variations:
You may use lemons in place of limes.
Use carbonated water if you like a little fizz.
Use blueberries, raspberries, pineapples or your preffered fruit.
The benefits:
Mint leaves aid in digestion and help relieve stomach upset. I prefer the spearmint in my strawberry limeade.
Strawberries are rich in vitamin C, zinc antioxidants and fiber rich. These properties help to boost the immune system and and aid in digestion. Strawberries are also believed to have a cooling effect on the body which makes them perfect for hot days.
Limes are a great source for calcium and folic acid. Their naturally occurring liminoid compounds are believed to help reduce colon, stomach and blood cancer and prevent kidney stones. Limes are also great for flushing out the digestive system and much more. Who knew a little fruit could pack such a punch?!
Local honey provides an immune boost.
Can you imagine such a tasty treat could be so beneficial?! I hope you enjoyed this post. Please let me know if you try it.
Until Next Time…Be Well.
